FOCUS: CLARA, ROBERT, JOHANNES continues with a concert featuring Brahms’s mighty 1st Symphony and Schumann’s Cello Concerto with soloist Nicolas Altstaedt. Soprano Midori Marsh and pianist Darren Creech perform a selection of Clara Schumann’s songs.
A brilliant finale to the FOCUS: CLARA, ROBERT, JOHANNES Festival: soloists James Ehnes and Nicolas Altstaedt team up for the first time in Brahms’s Double Concerto, Isata Kanneh-Mason performs Clara Schumann’s Piano Concerto and two brand new orchestrations of Clara’s songs are given their world premieres.
Alexander Shelley and the NAC Orchestra open their 2023/2024 season with FOCUS: CLARA, ROBERT, JOHANNES – a festival that represents the culmination of their multi-year recording cycle of the music of Clara and Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms. They are joined this evening by pianists Emanuel Ax for Brahms’s 1st Piano Concerto, as well as by soprano Alex Hetherington and pianists Liz Upchurch who will perform some of Clara’s songs. Schumann’s 1st Symphony rounds out the program.
In this third concert of the FOCUS: CLARA, ROBERT, JOHANNES Festival, the NAC Orchestra and Alexander Shelley are joined by soloist James Ehnes for Brahms’s Violin Concerto. Robert Schumann’s 3rd Symphony and Clara Schumann’s songs, interpreted by Alex Hetherington and Liz Upchurch round out the program.
