With UAQUE, the SPHERE Festival 2024 begins in spectacular fashion by creating a dialogue between Andrea Peña's dance, visual arts and music (performed by the NAC Orchestra, with Alexander Shelley conducting). In the background, Edward Burtynsky’s astonishing images paint a fascinating self-portrait of the planet, illustrating the duality between beauty and the environmental crisis beneath the surface.

Five years after rising to international acclaim with his seminal, award-winning album Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa, Jeremy Dutcher joins the NAC Orchestra as part of the SPHERE Festival with pivotal new music. This sonic journey is rooted in an ancestor quote: “Tan qiniw iyuwok wasis kpomawsuwinuwok, 'tankeyutomon-oc kihtahkomikomon.”As long as there is a child among our people, we will protect the land.
In the spirit of J’aime Hydro, her disruptive break-out hit , Quebec actor/writer Christine Beaulieu weaves a narrative of the life of a salmon fish, amidst the roiling and changing waters of the Mitis River. Beaulieu invites everyone to put themselves in the place of the salmon to discover their impressive journey and experience their reality transformed by humans. She invites the audience to be a part of the cycle of life, in this world premiere staging of her work with music interwoven and performed by the NAC Orchestra.
For one night only, three extraordinary women artists come together to pay homage to Nature in a blended musical experience that bridges borders and transcends barriers. Guest pianist and Easter Island native Mahani Teave and Hindustani violinist Kala Ramnath are joined by GRAMMY Award-winner and American soprano Renée Fleming, who brings her 2021 album Voice of Nature: The Anthropocene to life on-stage with the NAC Orchestra. Complemented by imagery specially curated by the National Geographic Society, Fleming’s performance includes her haunting rendition of “Twilight and Shadow,” from The Lord of the Rings as well as music from Björk, and the late, great Burt Bacharach.

Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the world-renowned Colorado Symphony Chorus with a renewal of Verdi’s monumental Requiem under the baton of guest conductor Alexander Shelley. The Chorus first performed this legendary work during its debut on October 25, 1984, at Boettcher Concert Hall. Nearly 40 years to the day, they breathe new life into Verdi’s compassionate projection of essential human emotions — devotion, agitation, and hope. A personal, reverent, and poignant tribute to Italian novelist Alessandro Manzoni, Verdi’s transcendent Requiem remains one of the most cherished choral works of all time.
