Music inspired by the works of Shakespeare are at heart of the programmes this week, as Alexander makes his debut with Montreal’s Orchestre Métropolitain in five concerts, including at the Maison Symphonique in the Place des Arts on Thursday December 6th. Repertoire favourites, Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Overture and Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture and Scherzo, will be heard alongside music by Richard Strauss’s and Anders Hillborg.
In the coming days Alexander Shelley and the National Arts Centre Orchestra will work alongside hundreds of children and amateur musicians from the National Capital Region as part of the “NACO in the Community Week”.
On Saturday February 27th Alexander teams up again with the English Chamber Orchestra for a concert in the Leeds International Concert Season. The performance takes place at the famous Leeds Town Hall, which was also the venue for the finals of the Leeds Conductors Competition that Alexander won in 2005. The competition victory marked the beginning of Alexander’s international career and the venue is close to his heart.
After receiving its world premiere at the Kennedy Center in February 2017, with none other than Joshua Bell as soloist, Alexander Shelley will conduct the NAC Orchestra in the Canadian premiere of The Man With The Violin at the NAC in Ottawa on December 20, 2017.
