Romeo and Juliet premiere in CopenhagenFebruary 11, 2011
After an intensive rehearsal period with a double cast throughout January, Alexander Shelley this week conducts the first of ten performances of Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen. The production, directed by Olivier Py and his team led by Wissam Arbache, is a co-production with Netherlands Opera and stars Niels Jørgen Riis and Inger Dam-Jensen in the title roles for the initial five performances, followed by Peter Lodahl and Sine Bungaard during the subsequent five. The ensemble cast also includes Palle Knudsen as Mercutio, Guido Paevatalu as Capulet, Bo Kristian Jensen as Tybalt, Nikolai Didenko as Friar Laurence, Anette Bod as Gertrude and Jens Bruno Hansen as the Prince of Verona.
