JUNO Nomination

February 1, 2019

Alexander Shelley and Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra have been nominated for a JUNO award in the category of Classical Album of the Year for ‘New Worlds’, their recent release on the Analekta label.

The album features Dvorak’s New World Symphony alongside Ana Sokolovic’s ‘Golden Slumbers Kiss your Eyes’, a work for counter tenor (David D Q Lee), choruses (Combined Ottawa Choruses) and symphony orchestra. The piece, an NAC commission, presents songs that immigrants have brought with them to Canada – a theme which is close to the composer’s heart as she explains in an interview with the Ottawa Citizen.

The JUNO awards will presented in London, Ontario this coming March.
