Gewandhaus Concert with MDR and Montero

October 13, 2018

Alexander is back in Leipzig this weekend, conducting a concert on Sunday, October 14th, at the historic Gewandhaus. He leads the MDR Radio Symphony Orchestra in a programme of masterworks: Debussy’s groundbreaking and evocative ‘Prélude a l’après-midi d’un faune’, Mozart’s c-minor Piano Concerto K491 and Brahms’s sunny 2nd Symphony.

Venezuelan virtuoso Gabriela Montero, with whom Alexander regularly collaborates (most recently in Sao Paulo in April 2018), is soloist for the Mozart and will, as always, improvise her cadenzas in performance.

The concert on Sunday will be broadcast live on MDR Radio. Click here to listen in.

Alexander has been a regular guest in Leipzig during recent season, leading the Gewandhaus Orchestra in both subscription concerts and at their ‘Klassik Airleben‘ summer concerts. It is his first subscription appearance with the MDR Sinfonieorchester. He returns to Leipzig in two weeks to lead a 1st World War memorial concert in St. Peter’s Church.
