Brazil DebutApril 9, 2018
Alexander Shelley this week makes his debut in Brazil, giving three concerts with the Orquestra Sinfonica do Estada de São Paulo (OSESP) at the Sala São Paulo. He will be joined by pianist and regular collaborator Gabriela Montero for a programme that features music by Rossini, Mozart and Beethoven.
Montero, a brilliant improviser as well as classical interpreter, first worked with Shelley in her home country of Venezuela nearly a decade ago, performing Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto and most recently with the Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra performing Mozart. This week sees her bringing her talent to bear in Mozart’s 14th Concerto in Eb, K449.
Shelley and the OSESP round off the programme with Rossini’s vivacious Overture to Barber of Seville and Beethoven’s magnificent 4th Symphony. The symphony will also be featured on April 13th, as Shelley works in masterclass with 4 young conductors and the orchestra, an event which is open to the general public.
